Glazed eyes for sugary things;
And sunlight shadows his brow.
Hay and heathen made carpeted floors;
For days he all he did was run and play.
Fields they filled with happiness;
Frogs and beetles brought stories with them.
The river, the pond, the well and rain;
They sang and rose to every dive.
Leading, guiding, and caring for him;
Earth loved him more than anything else.
Tired legs and wondrous feet;
Needed just the night for comforting.
While elders speak of a world and its coming;
The little one plays with fireflies.
Now the mother’s saree pallow caressed the cheek,
Of a boy that slept while dreaming of tomorrow.
In time and space I have all but grown;
And not deep within lie still those glazed eyes.
